Philadelphia banks charge their own customers the most in the nation for leaving the ATM network ($1.96),the north face 2in1 jacket according to new research from Bankrate.com. That’s in addition to the average surcharge of $2.50 that Philadelphia ATM operators charge to noncustomers. So Bankrate says that local customers who are charged both fees would be out $4.46 for each out-of-network withdrawal.The national average for out-of-network withdrawals was $1.57.Banks in Chicago ($1.10), (Baltimore ($1.12) and Los Angeles ($1.20) had the lowest the north face apex bionic jacket fees for using an out-of-network ATM.But the $2.50 surcharge for noncustomers in Philadelphia was right at the national average, at 12th out of 25 metro areas. Denver ($2.80), New York ($2.70) and Seattle ($2.70) topped the list.Philadelphia ranked ninth among 25 cities when it comes to overdraft fee charges at $31.70. Denver topped the list at $33.60. San Francisco was the lowest at $28.35. The national average is $31.26.Other findings form Bankrate’s 15th annual checking survey showed the percentage of free checking accounts offered by U.S. banks continues to fall as other checking fees continue to rise. Only 39 percent of non-interest checking accounts surveyed are available to all customers free of charge, down from 45 percent last year and the the north face denali jacket peak of 76 percent in 2009.The survey says 72 percent of Americans say they would consider switching checking account providers if their financial institution raised its fees on checking accounts, up from 64 percent in March 2011. Higher-income households ($75,000 and up), the most desired of customers, are the most likely to switch, at 82 percent.
